Friends of Waller Park Operations – 1991 to 2000

1991

July, 1991, the Santa Maria Breakfast Rotary Club donated 50 trees for Waller Park.

August 25, 1991, Tenth Annual Day in the Park held and included the Tim Watts Memorial Car Show, Santa Maria Symphony Brass Ensemble, Don Wallese Puppet Show, Sunny Country Safety Corner, and Los Padres Artist Guild’s Paint the Park.

September, 1991, new playground completed in the Don Potter area with donation from the Santa Maria Elks Lodge.

November, 1991, water canon irrigation system added to the back of the park. Received a donation of $1,200 from Chevron U.S.A. for the addition of two new volleyball courts.

December 7, 1991, wood sale in Waller Park held. $1,970 worth of wood sold.

1992

August 18, 1992 donation from Shell Western for $2,000 for new playground equipment.

Applied for grant through California ReLeaf, and received a grant far S2,400 for Youth Tree Planting Project which took place on August 18, 1992. Sixty trees were planted by Girl/Boy Scouts, 4-H and YMCA children.

Eleventh Annual Day in the Park was held on Sunday, August 30, 1992, coordinated by Santa Maria Breakfast Rotary Club and the Friends of Waller Park. Included Tim Watts Memorial Car Show, Los Padres Artist Guild and Sunny Country Safety Corner.

1993-94

In 1993 and 1994 many items were donated to the park including: 100 more trees, decomposed granite for park paths, a pad for the concessionaire, tables and benches, a chain saw, and many other items requested by the park staff for a total of $129,000.

1995

Replaced existing wood play structure with a new state-of-the-art structure for $40,000.

1998
● Replaced the main children’s play structure in the front of the park for $150,000
● Planted 2000 trees ($100,000)
● Installed an entrance sign ($4,000)
● Installed shade structure Area 6 ($6,000)
● Constructed the Disc Golf Course ($10,000)
